POCKET MONEY final results
As it was stated in the previous meeting, our students live in a little town 20 kms away from a leisure centre, which makes their consumer´s habits different from those teenagers living in a big town. Apart from a couple of convenience stores, some sweet shops, cafés and restaurants Sevilla la Nueva offers some sports facilities and a beautiful scenery and fresh open air to enjoy outdoors activities. So, whenever they want to go shopping or enjoy a meal out, they have to go somewhere else, but their age is a drawback since they are not old enough to travel on their own to Madrid or neighbouring towns. This situation is reflected in their questionnaires results.
Most of our students spend their pocket money on the things they can buy in their town, such as sweets, food and drink, magazines and books. On the contrary, the vast majority of them don’t spend any money on the cinema or the theatre because of the distance.
The majority of our students sometimes save their money to buy things they want. They usually spend it on clothes, shoes and computer games. They sometimes earn this money from doing housework.
About 50% of our students get from 1 to 3 Euros as pocket money and 25% of them get 4 to 6 Euros. And of course, all of them would like to have some more.
The students consider themselves good savers and think they can manage their pocket money quite well although we have not asked them how much money they save at the end of the week…
As we live in a “mobile era”, 90% of our teenagers own a mobile phone, but it is the family who runs with the costs of it, probably to have their children under control.
They hardly ever do online shopping, probably because of their age. Their parents are not used to doing it, either.
Unfortunately, most students do not give any money to charity or contribute to help other in need.
